The IRS has come out with several tax bulletins regarding fraudulent tax resolution companies within the past years warning the taxpayers to stay away from scam artists and companies making false claims.
Not only is the Internal Revenue Service warning taxpayers, the Atty. Gen. in three states have closed up three of the giant  IRS  tax resolution  problems company’s for a variety of reasons.
Because advertising through television and other media has driven so much work into these companies, the staff there simply cannot handle the work.
You may have heard of some of these firms.  They are JK Harris, Ronnie Deutch, and Tax Masters.
These firms have taken large retainers from taxpayers and have failed to do any work on closing their files with the Internal Revenue Service.
Several lawsuits of been filed and criminal charges have been filed against some of the fraudsters.
The numbers are going through the roof of  tax companies that are scamming taxpayers into thinking they can settle their case for pennies on the dollar and relieving by IRS Problems.
The tax resolution industry for the most part has been turned over to sales people.
Many of these persons have worked other business verticals such as mortgage, real estate and credit relief programs. When their industry changes because of economic reasons or changes due to the federal law, these companies and sales people are forced to find other business verticals to work.
A large number of these sales people have found their way in IRS Tax Relief and Resolution business.
While many of  them are good persons in general, they have no business working in an industry they know absolutely nothing about. Many of these companies are in business today and gone tomorrow and many times with your money.
We believe at some point the Internal Revenue Service is due a step in and regulate the tax relief, tax resolution business.
You can avoid many of these problems if you follow this practical common sense advice:
1. Check the Better Business Bureau report on the Company. If the company is not “A” plus rated, flee. Beware, many of these companies change names every couple of years and acquire a new business rating.
2. Find out if there is a Tax Attorney , CPA  or Former IRS Agents on staff. Ask to speak directly to them.
In legitimate companies,  Attorneys and CPA’s usually will not lend their names to scam artists. Beware of tax companies too that sub their work out to third party firms that are not connected with the company. This is a ploy used by most tax companies for IRS problems. When this occurs, communications and the processing of notice and letters in IRS correspondence fall through the cracks.
3. Check out how long the principles have been practicing tax or tax law. Most solid companies will find their principles have been practicing at least ten years or more.
4. Ask if the company guarantees their work. If a company is guaranteeing their work, flee again. No one can guarantee IRS results.
If they guarantee your money will be returned if they are not successful, that’s another story. This is a good place to check the Better Business Bureau rating  and check their complaint history.
5. Interview the person that may work your case. Ask about his or her credentials and IRS work experience.
6.  Skype the person face to face.
Ask if the person has a video conferencing system. You will get a good feel with a face to face.
7. Check out the Bio of the principles and staff.
Most companies on the Internet will not provide the bios of their professional staff because they are hiring third parties to do the work. This is another warning sign that you may be getting into problems.
